The Pinot Noir Cultural and Ethnographic Centre

The Pinot Noir Cultural and Ethnographic Centre collects, stores and promotes the documents and the wine growing traditions linked to Pinot Noir. The Centre aims to become a reference point as a centre for documentation and cultural production.

The Centre is a place where you can listen to the story of Pinot Noir and read about it. You can also discover the local wine growing traditions, not forgetting the rest of the world, since Pinot Noir is grown everywhere people live.

The Centre preserves and promotes the material and non-material cultural heritage and makes it more and more alive, both by highlighting the crucial role of the community, the holder of this heritage, and by making visitors of different ages the protagonists.

Scientific Documentation

The Centre implements an operational information system based on advanced technologies, in order to guarantee the communicative integration between the subjects who operate locally at a cultural level and the Centre itself. It also guarantees the integration of the archives’ data.

The Centre also interacts with structures that deal with Pinot Noir worldwide, from a cultural point of view too.

The Centre creates and promotes several contents, mainly scientific, cultural and social ones, about the Oltrepò Pavese and the Pinot Noir in Italy and in the world.

The website includes content provided by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart located in Piacenza:

  1. local bibliography
  2. international bibliography on Pinot Noir

Bibliography

The Catholic University of Piacenza is carrying out a research and collecting bibliography for the Pinot Noir Cultural and Ethnographic Centre. These actions aim to share knowledge about the history of Pinot Noir.
In this section you can consult the proceedings of various historical conferences organised in the Oltrepò Pavese during the 1980s and 1990s.

Some publications may interest wine lovers willing to find out more about the processes behind the Pinot Noir in their glass.

We truly believe that wine is more than a drink. It is alive and links us to history and nature. It allows us to understand how we can make the most of knowledge with hedonism and pleasure.

Other publications can provide a solid foundation on which wine production experts can build up knowledge.

Indeed, reading the documents that we managed to find lets us outlining many salient features of Oltrepò Pavese viticulture in the past decades and the way it has evolved up to the present day.

They include the various Pinot Noir clones, their characteristics and the regions in which they’re grown. The effects of soil, altitude, exposure are explained and the same goes for the best combination with the clone and consequently the type of wine to be produced. In addition to that, useful information is provided on nutritional and phytosanitary aspects.

In order to make the consultation of our virtual library user-friendly, we provide you with some extracts and invite you to consult the category “type of document” first.
